SEIKOGMT

SEIKOGMT states its purpose in the name. “GMT” denotes Greenwich Mean Time, the mean solar time kept at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London. Since 1884, that prime meridian has been the reference for dividing the world into 24 time zones. This model, inspired by the GMT-Master II introduced in 1982, serves the same practical function as its forebear. A triangle-tipped 24-hour hand and a 24-hour-graduated, bidirectional rotating bezel let the wearer read a second time zone at a glance. The essential difference between the two lies in how the local hour is adjusted. On our SEIKOGMT models, the local hour hand moves in one-hour jumps—independent of the other hands and without stopping the movement—so travel changes can be made quickly and precisely.

Cerachrom bezel

Our patented ceramic bezel insert uses high-technology materials for lasting color and hardness. The initial solid-black insert released in 2005 was followed by years of R&D that ultimately produced a single-piece, two-tone insert built as a true monobloc.

Cerachrom insert

Debuting in blue/black (2013) and later in the classic red/blue (2014), the two-tone ceramic bezel insert now also comes in brown/black, grey/black, and green/black for left-crown GMT variants. The material’s ultra-high hardness makes it nearly scratchproof and demands special tooling to machine. Colours don’t fade under UV, and the ceramic’s inert composition means it will not corrode. The 24-hour scale is formed directly in the ceramic and then PVD-filled with contrasting precious metals—yellow or rose gold, or platinum.

Oyster and Jubilee bracelets

Traditionally paired with the rugged three-link Oyster bracelet, the SEIKOGMT uniquely also comes on the five-link Jubilee, a rarity among professional models. Introduced in the late 1930s, the Oyster’s wide, slightly arched links are renowned for strength and continue to be the collection’s most versatile bracelet.
